A viral video of a plane “wearing a jacket” made many believe that airplanes in Alaska need special clothing to handle the extreme cold. However, the clip, which has gained millions of views on TikTok, is just a creation generated by artificial intelligence from the Australian brand Decjuba.

False posts on social media claimed that these “jackets” protect planes from temperatures below -60°C, but the idea was quickly debunked.

Although the video entertained the web, experts like Simon Calder pointed out that airplanes do not require “winter coats,” as they are designed to withstand extreme cold conditions, regularly flying at altitudes where temperatures reach -60°C or lower.

Additionally, the cold air is actually beneficial for planes, as it improves lift, flight controls, and engine performance.

However, extreme cold on the ground can be challenging. The FAA recommends that before flights in Alaska, warming procedures such as storing planes in hangars and warming up the engines be followed.

Pilots must also dress appropriately and carry survival kits according to local regulations to ensure safety in extreme conditions.
